Mexicana. Immigrant. Storyteller.
Ana Isabel Dow is a Mexican screenwriter, director, and actor with an interest in character-driven narratives that spotlight tenacious Latina protagonists and cross-generational family ties. Her profound irreverence for established gender and social norms is informed by her experience as a queer first-generation immigrant.
Her short film Virgencita was awarded a production grant for underrepresented filmmakers by 3Pas Studios and premiered at The Los Angeles Latino Film Festival (LALIFF) in May. Ana Isabel also recently served as a Young Mezcal Jurist at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, and was the 2024 Columbia University nominee for the Princess Grace Award, which recognizes emerging artists in film.
In addition to her work as a filmmaker, Ana Isabel is also an award winning theater actor and voiceover artist. Her credits include Tanya Saracho’s Fade (Off-Broadway) and Song For the Disappeared (Regional) in addition to TV shows and films on Max, Showtime, and Lifetime. She currently voices Mayor Luisa on Bea’s Blocks (Max).
Ana Isabel has a BFA in Drama and Psychology from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA with honors from Columbia University, where she taught undergraduate screenwriting and organized with SWU (UAW Local 2710). She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and AEA.
